Fruit and vegetable business: Number of EU regulations already in the first half of 2019 as high as in the entire previous year (EN/DE)

The EU Commission has already published twelve regulations concerning maximum quantity changes for a total of 74 active ingredients in the first half of the year. The implementation of these EU requirements is a major challenge for the fruit and vegetable industry, but also for the testing laboratories.

The reason for this wave of regulations is that EFSA, on behalf of the Commission, has re-evaluated many active substances and will continue to do so.  In addition to new, mostly more complex MRL definitions, this has resulted in various revocations of earlier approvals following more recent risk assessments and, as a result, frequent reductions in maximum residue limits.
