Regulation (EU) 2023/1510 amended the maximum permissible levels for cadmium for tiger nuts and certain cultivated mushrooms.
The Contaminants Regulation (EU) 2023/915 must be adapted. In the logic of the regulation, tiger nuts belong to the group of radishes. For these, the maximum level for cadmium was lowered to 0.02 mg/kg in the above-mentioned contaminants regulation.
In the meantime, data are available which show that tiger nuts generally have naturally higher cadmium contents than radishes. Therefore, the maximum level for tiger nuts was raised to 0.1 mg/kg.
Similar arguments were made for various cultivated mushrooms, so that the maximum level for cadmium in "cultivated mushrooms other than Agaricus bisporus" was raised to 0.15 mg/kg fresh weight. The limits of 0.5 mg/kg for cultivated mushrooms (Agaricus bisporus) and 0.5 mg/kg for wild mushrooms remain unchanged.
The new maximum permitted limits will apply from 10.8.2023
